What is Unit Operation and Unit Process
UNIT OPERATION
UNIT OPERATION is the general term which is commonly used in Chemical Engineering. Let's we understand it by some examples which is used in industries like : we are using belt conveyer in industries(to transport raw material or product) , Crusing is also used for cush raw material and change it's size, so clearly we understand that the physical changement done in the industries that all are comes under unit operation.
Definition :- Unit operation is the process in which physical change takes place is called unit operation.
For Ex :- Heat transfer unit operation, Mechanical Operation, fluid mechanics, Mass transfer, Thermodynamics, etc.
UNIT PROCESS
Unit process is also a general term used for Chemical Engineering and in other word we also say that it is the power of Chemical Engineers because in the case of unit operation there are some Engineering braches which also shares some subject of unit Operation like fluid flow operation, heat transfer, thermodynamics ,etc. But if we talk about unit process it is only done by Chemical Engineers. In unit process , reactions takes place(Reaction means Chemical changes).
Definition :- The process where Chemical change takes place as well as physical change such process is called unit process.
For Ex :- Any Reaction like Oxidation, Reduction, Saponification, curd making ,etc.
Oxidation
(a). CuO(s) + H₂(g) → Cu(s) + H2O(l)
"Note - If you are confused that in Unit process there is only Chemical change takes place then why I mention as well as physical change, it is because to complete any chemical reaction we required some physical changes like transport of reactant or other treatment that done before reaction so we written chemical change as well as physical change , if you write only chemical change it is also correct."
